FURNITURE
It has to have good “bones!” I am always on the hunt for unusual pieces that have interesting surfaces to embellish. Heirloom pieces have been brought to me to “give them a new dress.” Just because Auntie Maude’s buffet is in the garage, if we embellish it, it’s still Auntie Maude’s buffet. Right? When I’m working on a show I will choose color palettes that excite me. I want to tell a story with the work so the collections usually have many components to them. I see the whole story in my head—the trick is to capture it, to “realize the dream” in a physical form. I have been blessed over all these years to have an amazing archive if work out there for people to enjoy. I run into a piece of mine on projects all the time—it’s like a surprise visit from an old friend.
